Reuter reports today question asked Mr. Butler by

Mr. Alexander in the House of Commons regarding the

blockade of Canton.

There is no blockade.

In my opinion temporary closure

of Pearl River is due 2 grps. undec.] to military

operations (grp. undec.] not last long.

Temporary strict search of Chinese entering or leaving Shameen which had no political significance ceased yesterday. Addressed Foreign Office telegram No. 37, repeated British Embassy, [grp. undec], Commander-in-Chief, No. 100
